How We Got Started
Established in 2025, Hilo Rojo, started out as a senior project done at the University of Cal State East Bay by mother and daughter, Lucia Clara and Ashley Clara. Hilo Rojo focuses on solely creating a brand of “perfectly imperfect” bags with fun, bold embroidery designs and stylish but functional bags, accessories and clothing made for all ages and genders. Each product comes in a variety of shapes and colors, all handmade, making it sustainable and timeless where you can use them for many years to come.
The idea started in 2023 with an idea and a passion for sewing and design. Lucia Clara has been sewing for 34 years and has made it a lifelong hobby of hers. Lucia started to make clothes for her dolls and then later started sewing clothes for her daughters, family and friends. Gaining the title as the “seamstress of the family” and providing quality pieces. Over time, Lucia gained an interest for embroidery, thus a future of embroidered pieces started. Collecting hundreds of “Disney License” embroidery, she became fascinated by how an embroidered piece can really add so much emphasis on an item. From a small Mickey Mouse on a sweater, Lucia knew she wanted to create not only bigger but unique and original designs.

How The Brand Came to Be
The name “Hilo Rojo” is Spanish for “Red Thread”. The name is inspired by bracelets in Mexico being woven by a red thread. The bracelets symbolize good luck, prosperity or a way to bless someone with protection. Our logo was inspired by doves visiting the patio of my mother's home in Mexico. Red is the main color of the brand, since red, being a universal color for love and abundance, was fitting for the brand as all items are made with love.
